Calling dancers, musicians and those with a desire to entertain for a talent show. The talent show will be part of the Community Daze event hosted by Holy Faith Church and Dunnellon Community Services.
The event is Oct. 8, from 11 a.m – 3 p.m. with the talent show starting at 1 p.m.

It’s that time again! We are excited to resume the Rainbow Springs Garden Club 2022-23 monthly meetings, starting on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Rainbow Springs Community Center. Enter the building from the parking lot through the blue double doors on the lower level. The meeting will take place in the Orange Grove Room on the right side of the hallway.
The Garden Club is open to everyone in Dunnellon and the surrounding areas. Dues will remain at $15 a year; visitor fee is $5 per meeting, applicable to the yearly membership.

September 2022 marks the 40th anniversary of the club’s first meeting. Our first meeting will feature Linda Johnson, Marion County Master Gardener, who will speak on the same subject that began the club’s meetings – “Annuals and Perennials.”
The Garden Club Board has arranged a variety of interesting programs for the coming year. Come learn about what topics we will feature in the coming months.
The Rainbow Springs Garden Club will continue to offer our popular “Grow and Share” plant program. This program dates to the early days of the Rainbow Springs Garden Club and remains a good way to share those extra plants we all have. Hopefully, you have searched your garden this summer and potted some extras to share at the September meeting.
Proceeds from the sale of the plants along with our 50-50 drawing help fund our donation program to area community organizations.
We hope to see you on Sept. 22 as we begin a new year of gardening in Rainbow Springs.
One Rake at a Time, a local nonprofit which aims to restore the Rainbow River by removing invasive hydrilla and planting native eelgrass, was recently awarded a $150,000 state grant to conduct a technical study on the river.
The organization, led by Art Jones, is now hosting meetings every Wednesday at The Church of the Holy Faith community room in Dunnellon. The meetings will feature guest speakers and will provide information about One Rake’s project and how volunteers can help.
This week’s first meeting featured a guest presentation on otters on the Rainbow River.
The meetings are free and open to anyone.

Lake Tropicana Civic Association (LTCA) will begin their regular meetings on Monday, Sept. 19, as they plan out the fall lineup of events. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7-8, LTCA will be hosting the fall flea market, and Oct. 22 will be the annual spaghetti dinner, serving dine-in or carry out.

St. John the Baptist Catholic church is sponsoring a chicken dinner to benefit our community food pantry.
Our food pantry serves 450 families per month. This fundraiser will supply articles that will come back and help needy people of our community.
The dinner includes roasted 1/4 chicken or chicken cordon bleu, family style chef salad, red potatoes, rolls, butter, desserts and a cash bar. Please, no BYOB.
The dinner will be Saturday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in the parish hall. Tickets are $15 pp and are available at the church office, at 7525 U.S. 41, Dunnellon. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays. You can also purchase from any one of our church ushers before and after Mass on Saturday and Sunday.

Dunnellon’s annual Two Rivers Music & Food Truck Rally will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 5-10 p.m., and the Dunnellon Chamber and Business Association is seeking individual and business sponsorships. The event is planned, organized and executed completely by community volunteers with the goal to produce a quality event with live entertainment, vendor booths and family fun, while bringing visitors to our community to patronize our local businesses.

The second Radio Control Airplane Chuck Yeager Fly-in will be held Sept. 17 at the Rainbow R/C Park in Dunnellon.
The radio control model airplane fly-in is sponsored by the Tri-County R/C Club and sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics. It’s open to all warbird planes.
The landing fee is $5. Spectators are welcome.
The park is at 12175 S. Bridge Road, near the Little League complex. Signs will direct attendees.
Pilot registration opens at 8 a.m., followed by a pilot meeting at 8:30 a.m. The event last until about 1 p.m.
The Rainbow Café will be open and serve coffee and donuts, hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks.

We are hoping to increase the hours that the bookstore is open, but we need your help.

Titled “The ABC of Dementia,” the presentation will feature Debbie Selsavage, a certified dementia practitioner and President of Coping with Dementia LLC. The workshop will explain the nature of various forms of dementia, what to expect from this progressive disease, steps to becoming a more proficient and less-stressed care partner, and what resources are available in Citrus County for families living with dementia.

Fans of the “Hamilton” musical won’t want to miss the inaugural event in the College of Central Florida’s Stearns Speaker Series. Robert Watson, Ph.D., will present “Alexander Hamilton: Man, Myth, Musical” on Monday, Sept. 19, at 12:30 p.m. at the Dassance Fine Arts Center on the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. The lecture will be followed by a reception at 2 p.m. in the college’s Clifford B. Stearns Learning Resources Center.
Watson is a distinguished professor of American history and an Avron Fogelman research professor at Lynn University. He’ll share the intriguing backstory of Hamilton’s Jewish roots and hardscrabble upbringing as well as a fun fact-check of the musical and a closer look at the history behind some of the show’s iconic scenes.
“The speaker series will provide an opportunity for the college community and citizens in Marion and the surrounding counties to meet and hear from distinguished Americans,” said Cliff Stearns, who established the Friends of Cliff Stearns Endowed Chair through a gift to the CF Foundation in December 2020.

The Dunnellon Country Quilters meet at 12:30 p.m. every Monday at the First United Methodist Church on West State Road 40 in Dunnellon.
The group makes patriotic quilts for veterans, pillowcases for Shands Children’s Cancer Center, prayer quilts for the First United Methodist Church and quilts for the Citrus County Resource Center. We also have classes for different projects and go on road trips and quilt shows. Every third Monday of the month, we hold our business meeting and share what we have made.

The First Methodist Church of Dunnellon is starting a free program called “Forget-Me-Not.” We offer three hours of respite care for caregivers of early dementia and Alzheimer’s patients. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the College of Central Florida will host a Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.
Visitors can enjoy free kid-friendly art activities, music and giveaways, community resources and vendors. Food trucks will have meals and snacks available for purchase. Museum admission will be free for all visitors in connection with the Appleton Museum’s Free First Saturday, and the Appleton Museum will offer discounted memberships to festival attendees.

On the fourth Saturday of each month, food and basic home needs will be available at North Oak Church in Citrus Springs at 10 a.m., until supplies run out.
Enter the church property from N. Citrus Springs Blvd. and a supply of paper products, detergents, personal items and more will be brought to your car. Drive around, following the driveway, and food items will also be brought to the vehicle. Then, exit on to N. Elkcam Blvd.
Items vary based on availability. Anyone who has a need is welcome and there is no charge.

Tickets are now on sale for the Ocala Recreation and Parks Department’s first annual “Legends of the Fort” at Fort King National Historic Landmark, 3925 E. Fort King St., Saturday, Oct. 8, and Sunday, Oct. 9, 4 to 8 p.m.
Visitors will step back into history to meet the legends of Fort King’s past. A one-hour guided lantern tour will provide tales from the past while guests learn about the grounds of Ocala’s Seminole War historic site. Group tours will depart every 10 minutes. Old-fashioned games such as checkers, horseshoes, cornhole, and live music will round out the evening of fun. Refreshments will also be available for purchase.
Tickets must be purchased online. Walk-up ticket sales will not be available the night of the event. General admission is $5 per participant. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased here.
